Aug. 24, 1893—A fire shortly after 12 o'clock last Wednesday night destroyed a number of buildings on the corner of Fourth street and Tamalpais avenue. Through the heroic work and courage of three hosemen, Charles Livingstone, Sig Herzog and George McMann, who stood at their posts in the face of scorching heat, the new J. D. Bravo building was saved. The burned buildings were owned by John Bettencourt and were occupied by Ackley Brothers' stables, J. P. Iacerda's restaurant and family in the George Page cottage.
