The Steamer Sausalito Burns up with dock off San Quentin; February 28, 1884
We have not been able to find a photograph of the Sausalito vessel yet. The photo above is of the El Capitan, a Bay Area steamer built a few years before the Sausalito. The El Capitan was about 30 feet shorter, but heavier.
The article below is from Marin Journal, courtesy of the archives at Anne T. Kent California Room, Marin County Public Library. "Our fireboys, with 400 feet of hose..." refers to the San Rafael Volunteer FD. The steamer was 220 feet long, and weighed 692 gross tons. It may have been spelled Saucelito, as was common at the time, but this is not clear in the records.
