The Tamalpais Forest Fire District

The history of the Tamalpais Forest Fire District, in existence from 1917-1941.

We have quite a bit of information about this former FD, including photographs, courtesy of the Marin County Fire Department (MCFD). MCFD took over over providing fire services in unincorporated County areas in 1941 when the Tamalpais Forest Fire District (TFFD) was dissolved. Thankfully, the TFFD published a history and overview of the organization in 1940, when it became clear the group would dissolve and MCFD would take over. This document does a wonderful job of providing an inside view, and a great deal of historical information. Thanks to MCFD for providing the document, and the photos with the help of retired MCFD Captains Greg Jennings and Pete Martin, in the slide show beneath.
